5 of the best car films

Today we’re sharing five of the best car films – hopefully it will provide you with some inspiration of what to watch whilst we are all spending so much time at home.

1. Fast and the Furious

The first (and arguably the best, although Tokyo Drift is up there mainly for the music) of the eight part film series is a must-watch. “Los Angeles police officer Brian O’Conner must decide where his loyalty really lies when he becomes enamored with the street racing world he has been sent undercover to destroy.” And if you haven’t seen all of the film series, now is the time as the ninth installment is due in 2021 and a tenth film is also being planned.

Look out for: the FD-generation Mazda RX-7

2. Drive

Ryan Gosling stars in Drive, as a stuntman and getaway driver who falls in love with a woman who is married to a criminal. In order to protect her he crosses over to the other side of the law. The film was nominated for four BAFTAs and won an academy award for best sound.

Look out for: a 1955 Ford Thunderbird 40A

3. Ford v Ferrari

Also known as Le Mans ’66 debuted last year and tells the famous tale of American car designer, Caroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and British race car driver, Ken Miles (Christian Bale) as they work together to build a revolutionary vehicle for Ford to race against Enzo Ferrari’s cars at Le Mans. It’s a brilliantly intense film where you feel like the one behind the wheel.

Look out for: In early scenes of the movie, Damon drives a Porsche 356

4. The Cannonball Run

If you’re after some lighthearted comedy, this is the one to watch and had to be included as one of the best car films to watch. A classic film from 1981, the film is based on the 1979 running of an actual cross-country outlaw road race with the eccentric entrants doing anything to win the road race. With a great cast including Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett and Burt Reynolds, this is well worth a watch.

Look out for: Jill and Marcie start the race in a black Lamborghini Countach

5. Gone in 60 Seconds

This film from 2000 stars Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie and tells the tale of a retired master car thief must come back to the industry and steal fifty cars with his crew in one night to save his brother’s life. Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches make up just some of the cars on the list.

Look out for: Eleanor – a rare Ford Shelby Mustang GT500
